Options Education has a team of experienced counselors that provide advice on various courses and education providers most suitable for you after assessing your educational qualifications, interests, and goals. You will need to discuss this with your current provider, as the policies and procedures vary for international students. In most cases, you are restricted from transferring your course during the first six months of the program. If you want to change before completing the first six months of your program, you must apply to your current provider for their permission. If they agree, you will be issued a release letter.

You might prefer to make some money to cover your living expenses, and having a part-time job while studying will be a way to achieve this. Your student visa allows you to work 40 hours a fortnight during the semesters and full time during the semester breaks.

Most of our students get part-time work in fields such as Hospitality, Retail, aging care, Disability, and security. Once you identify the field of part-time work you are interested in, take the following steps to acquire it:

  • Enroll in a part-time course to get Australian part-time work qualification.
  • Resume: Ensure that you edit your resume to Australian standards and update your details relevant to the job you are applying for.
  • Create job alerts on the online job portals such as Indeed, Seek, Gumtree, Jora, job search, CareerOne, Randstad, etc.
  • Apply online, call, or visit the businesses that have declared vacancies online.
  • Apply for a Tax File Number (TFN). A TFN is not required immediately; however, your employer will need it when you start your first job.

You will need to check the terms and conditions of the lease agreement that you have signed and move forward according to the lease agreement.

There are several accommodation options for international students in Australia. These include: a homestay with an Australian family if you are below 18 years old; renting privately; short-term temporary accommodation; on-campus accommodation; or unilodge shared accommodation. The majority of students book temporary accommodations when they first arrive in Australia. We recommend you book between 2 and 4 weeks of temporary accommodation prior to your arrival and commencement of your course. Once you have attended orientation, you will be given information about local accommodation options. Some students choose to share a rental house or apartment with other students, as this reduces costs. It is advisable to secure accommodation with easy access to public transportation.

For accommodation availability, visit websites such as Realestate.com, Flatmates.com, Gumtree, and Facebook Marketplace.

Continuing Education In Australia

From time to time, some institutions offer partial scholarships. Most of these cover a part of the tuition fee, ranging from 15% to 50% of the tuition fee. Hence, a student needs to be able to cover most of their tuition fee as well as the upkeep. To acquire a scholarship, there is an eligibility criterion that an institution provides, and a student must meet it. Institutions do not offer full scholarships.

While Options Education understands that the prospect of an Australian Permanent Residency visa acts as an incentive to study particular courses, we encourage students to choose courses in their areas of interest in order to get the most out of their study experience. You will be able to discuss this during your course counseling sessions with the student counselors.

The first university semester begins in February, and the second semester commences in July. We encourage students to submit applications at least four months prior to commencing the course program. This will be sufficient time to process the application and student visa lodgement. You will be required to submit original copies or certified true copies of the following: your valid passport, academic transcripts, and a completion certificate of your highest educational attainment. In some cases, an IELTS test result is also required.

The same process for changing your course applies to transferring institutions. In most cases, you are restricted from transferring to another provider during the first six months of the program. If you want to transfer before completing the first six months of your program, you must apply to your current provider for their permission. If they agree, you will be issued a release letter.

A credit transfer will be assessed upon submission of the completion certificate and final academic transcripts. Some providers can provide conditional exemptions based on transcripts provided in the interim.

If you have completed previous tertiary studies, you may apply for credit toward your course. In some cases, you will need to present the course syllabus from your previous studies when you apply to the university so that they can assess your eligibility.

Yes. The TAFE diploma is recognized by major universities, TAFE also offers programs that act as alternative pathways to an undergraduate degree.

Extending or Renewing A Student Visa

International students are required to show access to sufficient funds to support their cost of living, return airfare to their country of origin, and tuition fees. For further information, please visit the DOHA website
(https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/).

Your visa subclass is decided according to the education sector of your program course. If you change to a degree program, you should change your visa category.

As an international student, an application for a visa extension should be lodged prior to the expiration date to avoid penalties. A valid visa is required for you to remain legally in Australia.

If you are an onshore student, Options can lodge your visa extension or renewal application online. Please contact the OPTIONS office to discuss the requirements of this further.
